Cousins

It has been over a month since I last posted but just when I think I can sneak one in... the restaurant (or someone in it) demands my attention and squashes my chances of writing anything more than a quick note. For the moment, things seem uneventful thanks to the dismal swamp smoke and pending thunderstorm, so here goes...

Yesterday's backyard barbecue seemed to be a success overall. Eddie and I were especially happy to have our families there with us. I miss the days when we cousins were kids and such times together were the norm rather than a rare treat. Usually at Yia-Yia and Papou's house with lots of people and food and family, those memories seem so distant now yet permeate my thoughts nonetheless. Especially with Alexis and Pete perched on parenthood, I can easily imagine the joy on Yia-Yia and Papou's faces, were they there yesterday, as they saw for the first time the belly bulge that will be baby DiLullo. I'm sure their hearts are swollen with pride as they look down from above at our family and the promises tomorrow brings.

Yet I am saddened our family has become so geographically scattered over the years. The miles don't lessen the love but they do create boundaries to how much time we can spend together. I miss you all and I think that Independence Day may be just the day for me to realize I need to declare independence from our business once in a while and get on the road to go visit you all. The memories I have of those childhood days together will always be strong but perhaps now is the time to start writing a new chapter of memories rather than focusing on what is no more.
In the meantime, I love reading your blogs and knowing what's going on in your lives, so keep posting and one of these days I hopefully will post that the Talleys are coming to visit!

We loved seeing you on the 4th and would love the chance to spend more time together! We should start planning a big family reunion every year.

Thanks for having us over, we had a blast. We love you!
